Enduro is a racing game developed and released by Activision for the Atari 2600, on February 1, 1983. Created by designer Larry Miller, it is considered one of the company's pearls on the console, having received positive reviews and being one of the most popular of the generation.
Gameplay
The objective of Enduro is to race in races in the category over several days. The driver faces varying tracks and scenery, such as snow and heavy fog at night. Each day, the cycle of terrain types repeats indefinitely, with the difficulty varying according to the number and speed of cars that overtake the player with each crash. If a day begins without the player having managed to reach at least one overtaking limit (200 on the first day, and 300 from the second), the game ends.
After the fifth victory, a trophy appears next to the odometer, which is located at the bottom of the screen, and which also indicates the number of overtakings necessary before a new day of racing begins. At the time of launch, players who sent a photo of the screen with the trophy to Activision received an embroidered badge with the title "Activision Roadbuster" in the mail.
Controls are based on lateral movement, braking (directing downwards) and the accelerator button; hitting the car on the sides of the track also slows the vehicle down abruptly.
Reception and legacy
Enduro is considered one of the pearls of Activision and the Atari 2600, having received very positive reviews (including a 9.6/10 from Allgame) and appearing in the 2002 "Activision Anthology" compilation for PlayStation 2, Windows, Mac, Game Boy Advance, DigiBlast, iOS and Android.
